DATE & TIME
Sat, Sep 19, 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
LOCATION
1601 16th St NW, Washington, DC 20009

Join the DC History Center on a walking tour with Joe Himali through the Dupont neighborhood.

Step into Dupont Circle, where the city’s layered past meets a dazzling range of architectural styles. Once home to Washington’s elite, Dupont evolved into a lively, storied neighborhood filled with Italianate mansions, Romanesque Revival façades, and cleverly repurposed carriage houses tucked just out of sight. Its streets are a living archive of power, ambition, reinvention—and the unexpected.

This two-hour tour covers just five blocks of Q Street but is packed with discoveries. You’ll learn to spot the architectural details that define Dupont’s character, hear stories of its historic architects, visit a prominent LGBTQ landmark, wander down a hidden alley to find a remarkable carriage house, and even uncover the reason behind DC’s famous height restriction.
