Garnet Wolesey Jex
Garnet W. Jex (1895-1979) was a painter, particularly a landscapist and portraitist. Born in Ohio, he grew up and was educated in Washington, DC and studied art at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and the Corcoran School of Art. Mr. Jex also photographed Washington as it was changing in the mid-twentieth century. The Garnet W. Jex Southwest Collection, 1958-1964, consists of 288 35mm color slides of scenes of Washington’s Southwest as it was being demolished for redevelopment.
