Connect with the history of local life in Washington, DC! The DC History Center is located on Mt. Vernon Square, across the street from the Walter E. Washington Convention Center and less than one mile northeast of the White House.

Our three exhibits introduce basic DC history and highlight the strengths in our collections, explore the history of the Carnegie Library building, and offer time travel back to DC’s 20th century via panoramic photography.

HOURS AND LOCATION
The DC History Center is located two blocks from the Mount Vernon Sq/7th St-Convention Center Metro Station and two blocks north of the Gallery Pl-Chinatown Metro station.

ABOUT THE CARNEGIE LIBRARY
Learn about Andrew Carnegie’s gift to DC, built in 1903 in the Beaux-Arts architectural style.
