The beginning of a new year always comes with a sense of possibility and excitement. Not surprisingly, this is true of the DC History Center as well. It can be a time to mark and celebrate organizational change, and this year, a welcome moment to share our strategic plan and our loftiest ambitions with our community of stakeholders.

Our comprehensive and holistic strategic planning process started in summer 2020 and soon resulted in our new mission and vision, which we shared with you previously. To inform our programmatic plan, we instituted the Community Council, with three to four representatives from each ward of the city. Spring 2022 we approved the three-year plan and started the work.

This summer, we also released our Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Statement along with examples of these principles at work.

With 2022’s accomplishments under our belt, we are now posting a summary version of the plan along with our FY23 action items here on our website.

You have an essential and valued role to play in fulfilling this vision for the future, which is why we are asking for your feedback.

What resonates for you? What strikes you as most important? How would you like to join us in this work? Drop me a line at lhagood@dchistory.org. We can’t wait to hear from you.
