ExposedDC2016ShowGraphic2The Historical Society of Washington, D.C. is proud to host the 10th annual Exposed DC Photography Show, March 11-25, 2016 and offer extended public hours during the exhibition’s run.

The 10th annual Exposed DC Photography Show will be on display in the Historical Society’s East Gallery on the second floor of the historic Carnegie Library at Mt. Vernon Square, 801 K Street NW, Washington, D.C. Following the opening evening reception on Thursday March 10, 2016, exhibition hours are Monday-Thursday 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. and Friday 10:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. The exhibition will also be open Saturday March 12, 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. The 10th annual Exposed DC Photography Show concludes Friday March 25th, 2016.

The exhibition complements the current holdings of the Historical Society, which includes more than 90,000 cataloged photographs and visual images (see DCHistory.org/Research for more information on the collections).

“We’re thrilled to further Exposed DC’s mission to strengthen and cultivate the local photography community,” said Library and Collections Director Anne McDonough. “Many of our collections stem from the work of local photographers who understood the need to
document D.C.’s social, architectural and political life through the decades. Exhibitions such as these are a great way to help identify photographer-historians of contemporary Washington, D.C. and encourage one and all to focus on the city they call home.”

On display are the 47 winners of Exposed DC’s 2016 contest, chosen for their depiction of the local side of Washington, D.C. Five of those photographs will be awarded Best in Show prizes, each one chosen by a panel of distinguished metro-area photographers: Lucian Perkins, Susana Raab, Lauren Stockbower, Yodith Dammlash, and Carolyn Russo.
As Exposed DC’s co-founder Heather Goss notes, “what could be a better venue for an exhibit of images that tell the tales of modern life in the District? We’re so pleased to be working with [the Historical Society] and holding our opening reception throughout the historic Carnegie Library with our other partners.”
