Please welcome our new education manager, Domonique Spear!
Domonique brings to the DC History Center experience teaching in both traditional and non-traditional classroom settings. Her primary focus will be creating and executing K-12 programs and activities to support DC-area educators and their students as they explore local history.
Our educational programs rely heavily on understanding how the DC History Center’s unique resources can best serve the needs of educators. To that end, Domonique will continue to build an ever-growing network of educators teaching DC history through our existing programs such as the inaugural DC Declaration of Learning [now called Teach the District].
“I’m looking forward to cultivating meaningful, long-term relationships with DC teachers and students. I’m very excited to develop a shared vision for how history can be a catalyst for learning, growth, and change.” – Domonique Spear
As a former elementary school teacher with Prince George’s County Public Schools, Domonique innately understands the challenges facing classroom teachers, and the ways in which cultural organizations such as the DC History Center can best serve them. She also brings to the position her experience working at a variety of local cultural institutions, including the National Museum of African American History and Culture and the National Postal Museum. Most recently, Domonique served as museum educator at the National Children’s Museum, developing and leading onsite and virtual STEAM-based educational programming for children and their families.
Raised in the DC Metro area, Domonique is the proud daughter of two native Washingtonians. She holds a master’s degree in museum and childhood education from Bank Street College of Education, and a BA from Tuskegee University, where she majored in history.
