Please welcome our new development manager, Sajel Swartz!

Sajel brings to the DC History Center experience in communications, event planning, project management, and public history. Her primary focus will be creating and executing fundraising campaigns, managing memberships, and supporting grant proposals to support the organization’s work.

Sajel Swartz, Development Manager

Sajel’s recent contributions will already be familiar to many in the DC History Center’s orbit. She has previously worked with the DC History Center assisting with organization-wide communications and the DC History Center’s social media. Previously, she worked at the Daughters of the American Revolution in event planning and project management, running a week-long conference with over 4,000 attendees.

Every aspect of our work to engage DC residents as members, donors, and supporters requires an understanding of the important role history plays in underpinning the interests of the community. Sajel’s experience in public history, spanning from video production to oral history, brings a unique perspective to her work in development, where she is applying the lens of justice, equity, diversity, inclusivity, and accessibility to fundraising as an ethical community practice.

“I’m looking forward to cultivating meaningful, long-term relationships with Washingtonians who are passionate about supporting the preservation and elevation of DC history from every corner of our city.”

Raised in Kentucky, Sajel has lived in the DC Metro area for 4 years in Bloomingdale and Mount Pleasant, and is proud to call the city home. She holds a master’s degree in public history from American University and a bachelors from Centre College, where she majored in history.
