Join photographer Shedrick Pelt at the DC History Center as we celebrate the release of his new book “District Postcard Views.”
Through his photography, Shedrick Pelt captures the District of today with an eye for the city’s history. His new photobook, District Postcard Views, features vintage-inspired images of landmark locations throughout all eight wards, printed on removable 5×7” postcards. In this collection, Pelt highlights historically Black landmarks. Flipping through the pages, you are reintroduced to the city—recognizing some locations and discovering places that are new-to-you and off-the-beaten-path. Looking closely at what is, you’ll wonder what was.
At the book launch on Friday, February 24, join the DC History Center for an evening of conversation, music, and light food and drink among our community of creatives, historians, and storytellers. During a short sit-down program at 6 pm, Shedrick will be in conversation with Austin Graff and Jay Coleman. While taking a closer look at the images, they’ll talk about connecting to our evolving city by learning about the past.
Registration for this event is free for all attendees. Pre-registration for the event is encouraged, but not required. Capacity is limited. Consider donating today to support the work of the DC History Center and programs like this. Books will be available for purchase from the DC History Center.
