Washington History magazine is pleased to announce that Dr. Cindy Gueli has joined the publication as its new Review Editor! Cindy is a historian, author, and historical consultant for TV and film. Her academic teaching and research focuses on U.S. cultural, political, and women’s history with an emphasis on Washington, DC, which was the focus of her book Lipstick Brigade: The Untold True Story of Washington’s World War II Government Girls (2015). Cindy holds a B.A. from Georgetown University and a master’s in Communications and master’s and Ph.D. in History from American University.

Cindy‘s family connections to D.C. go back several generations: her great-grandfather worked as a stonemason on the National Cathedral; grandmother graduated from Providence Hospital Nursing School; and father coordinated PADC development activity on projects such as the Willard Hotel and Old Post Office Pavilion. Her current research focuses on the intersection of sex, gender, and politics in DC.

As Review Editor, Cindy will be managing…well, everything that needs reviewing. Her purview includes but is not limited to books, films, public exhibitions, and tours that pertain to the history of our capital city. John DeFerrari, our outgoing Review Editor, will be moving into a new position as Photo Editor. We are excited that John is extending his tenure at Washington History and thrilled that we will benefit from his discerning eye and expert taste in images.

Please give Cindy a warm welcome. She looks forward to collaborating with all of you in the future, and we’re honored to have her join the Washington History magazine’s editorial team.
