More than sixty-five members attended the Historical Society of Washington, D.C.’s annual meeting, held at the Carnegie Library on September 27, 2014.
Following breakfast and socializing, Society Chair Julie Koczela called the meeting to order. Members approved the election of the following eight members to the Board of Trustees: John Hoskinson, Antoinette Lee, Maria Marable-Bunch, Amanda Ohlke, Edward Phillips, Nikki DeJesus Sertsu, Scott Williams, and Helena Wright. Koczela also thanked retiring board members Daniel Rezneck, Scott Segal, and Eugene Dewitt Kinlow for their dedicated service.
Executive Director John Suau presented on FY2014 achievements, such successful partnerships with the D.C. Public Library and the National Building Museum and the addition of more than 90 linear feet of collections to the Society’s holdings; as well as FY2015 projections, including an increased social media presence, the upcoming Making D.C. History Awards event, the For the Record collections initiative, and the imminent release of the Fall 2014 issue of Washington History.
As noted during the meeting, the Society is actively accessioning new donations and continues to preserve legacy collections; preservation supplies such as acid-free folders, papers and boxes are costly and always in demand. In response, members raised more than $200 in a spontaneous drive for collections supplies!
