The Historical Society of Washington, D.C. has a busy fall ahead and we need volunteers to help us! Through serving as docents for the permanent exhibit, staffing programs, providing reference services, processing collections, and performing administrative activities, the countless hours contributed by members and other volunteers are critical to the continued success of the Historical Society’s mission.

Current Needs
Exhibit Docents (Tuesdays thru Fridays; occasional Saturdays): Welcome visitors to the Historical Society and orient locals and tourists alike to the permanent and temporary exhibitions. Should be able to commit eight hours per week for a minimum of six months. Greatest need: The newest exhibit opens September 23nd and runs through December 18!
Reference Volunteers (Thursdays and Fridays; occasional Saturdays): Must have demonstrated experience with reference services and/or cataloging, and be able to commit eight hours per week for a minimum of one year.
Office Volunteers: The Historical Society welcomes volunteers who can provide staff with administrative support, with a minimum commitment of four hours per week.

Museum Administration & Outreach Fall Internship: The Project Coordinator Intern serves as the lead for a new project establishing a city-wide coalition of cultural institutions (collecting and non-collecting) that represent the broadest profile of local history in Washington, D.C. History & Journalism Fall Internship: The Content Specialist Intern coordinates, manages, and updates all content for a special project in coordination with Washington History. (see listing on Idealist for more information)
Marketing & Social Media Fall Internship: Social Media Intern helps develop a strategy and protocol for the management of the organization’s social media profiles. The intern will coordinate, manage, and update all content on the organization’s social media outlets. (see listing on Idealist for more information)
Fall 2016 internships begin at the end of August or early September and run through December.
