Inspired by the tremendous response to our call for the upcoming fall 2024 Home Rule issue, Washington History seeks submissions for the spring 2024 issue and beyond.

Washington History magazine, the semiannual peer-reviewed journal published by the DC History Center, seeks articles on the wide-ranging history of our nation’s capital, including but not limited to architecture, arts, business, the environment, gender, labor, law, politics, race, social movements and activism, transportation, urban planning, and more. Submissions may be in the form of analytical manuscripts, first-hand accounts, oral histories, or photo essays. Submissions must be supported with footnotes and written for a general audience.

To be considered for the upcoming spring 2024 issue, submissions need to be in final form. For submission guidelines, please read more here. The editors are also eager to receive queries for the 2025 editions and beyond. Have an article that you’ve always wanted published? Now is the time!
