DC history in and out of the classroom

At the DC History Center, we know the importance of humanities education. Our resources, based on the primary and secondary sources found at the DC History Center,  help educators enhance social studies instruction in their classrooms.

DESIGNED-FOR-EDUCATORS RESOURCES
Websites featuring lesson plans to support DC history topics found in the DC Public Schools curriculum, grades 3-12; featured resources such as materials to support Black Lives Matter at School; a timeline that tracks DC’s history from the time when members of the Nacostine tribe occupied the land until 2019; and standalone downloadable activities relating to DC history topics.

WASHINGTON HISTORY IN THE CLASSROOM
Washington History magazine is the only scholarly publication devoted to DC history. This selection of articles are great for high school and college students who are doing research on local topics, and provide helpful context for the adults guiding them.
